SUMMARY:Meet Author T.F. Walters\, Author of My Brother's Keeper
DESCRIPTION:
Dallas and Dakota Seabrook are two brothers who get a crash course in the school of life while growing up in Harlem.

Dakota\, the older of the two is tired of his family living in obscurity. He has a thirst for fame and money and is seduced by the streets at a young age. He turns to the drug game to help support the household. As crack sweeps through Harlem\, Dakota becomes a major player in the drug underworld\, all before reaching his 18th birthday. He loves his new lifestyle and has no intention on giving it up for anything or anybody\, including his family.

Dallas\, on the other hand is a carefree young man\, who enjoys school\, sports and just being a kid. As he matures\, Dallas becomes a stellar athlete\, with great promise and a bright future.

Life seems to be getting better for Nora Seabrook and her two sons. They moved from their rough Harlem neighborhood to an upper middle class residence on Long Island.

Everything seemed to be going well. Dakota fulfilled a life long dream for his mother. He made her a homeowner and she is allowed to relax and enjoy life. Dakota made sure Nora and Dallas had the best of everything. In his new school\, Dallas is a great student and a budding basketball star headed for the big time.

The good life soon goes bad\, as Dakota becomes the victim of a brutal homicide. Devastated\, the Seabrooks turn to the Police for answers. After a very feeble investigation that turns up absolutely nothing\, Dallas decides to take matters in to his own hands.

As his high school graduation draws near\, Dallas makes the ultimate sacrifice. He chooses revenge over athletics and an education. Instead of expending his energy in the classroom and on the basketball court\, Dallas decides to find his brother’s killer.

In a feverous manhunt that leads him to Atlanta\, Dallas stumbles upon a major break that will crack Dakota’s murder case wide open. On the cusp of solving an enigma that spans almost seven years\, Dallas will be forced to make a life altering decision\, one that will haunt him for as long as he lives.
Come take a journey with the Seabrook brothers\, through the eyes of Dallas and see how they handle drugs\, guns\, money\, sex and betrayal.

SUMMARY:Meet Janice McDonald\, Author of The Varsity
DESCRIPTION:

Just the name The Varsity can set generations of mouths watering. What started in 1928 as one man’s efforts to bring affordable food to students\, grew quickly into a fast food institution.

The world’s largest drive-in since the 1950s\, The Varsity’s menu has changed little since Frank Gordy opened its doors near downtown Atlanta. It has set records for its vast quantities of hot dogs\, hamburgers\, onion rings\, and fried pies served daily. Gordy was a visionary in developing both the food he served and how he served it.

It is impossible to imagine the countless numbers who have enjoyed a heavy dog walking (hotdog with extra chili to go) or an F.O. (frosted orange shake) over the decades. The Varsity is also where the term carhop was first used. Servers hopped on the running boards of cars in an effort to get the orders in quick!

Atlanta author Janice McDonald has heeded The Varsity call of “What’ll ya have?” many times. In her third book for Arcadia\, she has tapped the rich memories of Varsity fans\, as well as numerous photographic archives\, to explore how this timeless restaurant remains a part of the fabric of so many lives.

SUMMARY:Meet Jeffery Wells\, Author of The Atlanta Ripper
DESCRIPTION:

A very special Black History Month presentation!

As Atlanta finished rebuilding after the Civil War\, a new horror arose from the ashes to roam the night streets. Beginning in 1911\, a killer whose methods mimicked the famed Jack the Ripper murdered at least twenty black women\, from prostitutes to working-class women and mothers.

Each murder attributed to the killer occurred on a Saturday night\, and for one terrifying spring in 1911\, a fresh body turned up every Sunday morning. Amid a stifling investigation\, the slayings continued until 1915.

As many as six men were arrested for the crimes\, but investigators never discovered the identity of the killer—or killers—despite having several suspects in custody. Join local historian Jeffery Wells as he reveals the story of the Atlanta Ripper\, unsolved to this day.
