Bookstore Cat

Kona the Cat is the public relations director for Bound To Be Read Books. Kona is a rescue cat who was born in April 2005, in Atlanta’s West End. She was brought to the home of Michael Cox and Kevin Rousch only days old and nearly dead. Michael and Kevin nursed her back to health and fostered her until she was old enough to assume her responsibilities at the bookstore.

Kona arrived at the bookstore on August 4, 2005 and immediately began supervising the final construction work. She seemed especially fond of sanding, painting and other work that involved repetitive motion, often interrupting with a playful pounce to remind everyone that life is about more than just hard work.

She loved climbing the wooden 8 ft. work ladder and once jumped on the painter’s back when he least expected it. It was latex paint and there was a drop cloth on the carpet, so no harm done...

Kona’s work responsibilities include standing in the front window and looking cute, sleeping in the front window and looking cute, and meeting visitors and looking cute. While pouncing on store owner Jeff McCord is not in her job description, she also finds plenty of time to do that. She also patrols the store for flies or other bugs and will add mice to her list if the need ever arises.

Kona gets her name from the town of Kailua Kona, Hawaii, which is where Michael and Kevin have recently moved. She is open to the possibilities of a longer and more literary name, but she’s not losing any sleep over it. She’s too busy…looking cute.

Kona, the bookstore cat, doing her job as public relations director--looking cute!
